The Sidekicks App and Service

Sidekicks, our new smartphone app and online service, enables parents to connect with their children through their strongest interests or “affinities” by weaving video clips into their conversations about social, emotional and practical topics. Parents who have tested Sidekicks have raved about it!

One parent wrote us when her daughter, a “very quiet” 17-year-old with autism, asked several times to use Sidekicks again, saying: “That was fun and I want to talk more like that.” The mom continued, “I believe that the tool that you are developing is going to make a difference in many lives!”

What People are Saying About Sidekicks

“He will typically ‘dial out’, zone, laugh, perseverate when writing his homework. Last night, with Griff as sidekick and coach, he did very little of that and was done in 20 minutes instead of the usual 30 with me. He was a lot more respectful of Griff's insistence that videos came AFTER homework.”

“He’s opening up and expressing things that he hasn’t told us before! He likes it — he knows what’s going on and he wants to use it again.”

Our Company

We are a mission-driven, technology-based startup based in Harvard Square. We are building a mobile virtual companion or avatar, known as Sidekicks, that serves as a mixed-media communications and content delivery platform for the parents (Coaches) of children with autism (Heroes). The platform and app use the Hero’s affinity for films or, eventually, other content to help Coaches connect and communicate in transformative ways. With this amazing new service, Coaches are now able to use film and other content to reach, teach and support their Heroes and help them achieve social, emotional and practical goals in order to live more fulfilling, independent lives!

Helping families around the world dealing with autism – for which the overall cost exceeds $130B in the U.S. alone – is just the beginning. Future versions of our patent-pending service will be designed to bring similarly innovative solutions to families dealing with ADHD and Alzheimer's. The strong Sidekicks team is led by serial entrepreneurs and veterans in the virtual assistant and speech/NLU/AI markets as well as experts in special needs populations.

Sidekicks’ Origins

As told in his best-selling book, Life, Animated, Ron Suskind and his wife, Cornelia, turned their son Owen’s affinity for animated movies into a pathway for Owen to express his passion for life and for his family… and it worked! Based on this success and the favorable response from other parents here and abroad, Ron developed Sidekicks, a revolutionary new service and app that will help millions connect with their children and loved ones in similar, transformative ways. This short video captures the inspiration behind Sidekicks.

A feature-length documentary of Owen’s life – also entitled Life, Animated – premiered January 23rd at the Sundance Film Festival to overflow crowds and rave reviews! Click here to learn more and watch a clip.
